Be the Stranger That Makes Someone’s Day.
How to show more kindness and make conversation.
Today I was sitting in a coffee shop journaling and sipping my tea. I love going to cafes and doing some creative work. There is no place that is more relaxing.
After about 30 minutes, an older woman came up to me and started to make conversation. She asked me what I was writing about. She then told me how focused I looked and how happy it made her to see people writing.
Turns out she is a writing teacher and leads a group class on writing memoirs. She was telling me about all the stories she’s heard and how they’ve touched her. We got to talking about the book I was reading, “Courage Is Calling” by Ryan Holiday.
She then proceeded to begin dancing around the cafe with her daughter and the barista, singing “Jessie’s Girl”.
It is interactions like this that make me grateful to be alive. This is what human connection is all about. Those random interactions with strangers in coffee shops, talking about something you both love. This is what gives life purpose.
I always love when people come up to me, but I’m never the one to initiate conversations like this one. I wish I was. I want to make more of an effort to be this type of person to others. I know how good it makes me feel when I can join in on…
